I LOVE HELPING PEOPLE OVERCOME ANY MOVEMENT CHALLENGES THEY FACE, BECOME MORE AWARE OF THEIR BODIES, HELP THEM DISCOVER WHERE THEIR BODY IS IN SPACE, AND JUST WHAT THEY CAN DO WITH IT.

Hi! I’m Krystel Jeffery, the owner of My Pilates Studio. I am passionate about Pilates because it has made a big difference to my life. In my late teens I was diagnosed with a back condition. An orthopaedic surgeon recommended an operation but with a serious chance of not walking afterwards. I was nineteen. I chose not to have the surgery. I put up with pain and discomfort for a few years until I took the advice of a good friend who recommended Pilates. I attended two sessions a week and noticed a big improvement. Two decades later, I am fit and strong and absolutely not in need of back surgery.

I completed my Diploma in Professional Pilates Instruction through Polestar Pilates International in 2010. This includes comprehensive studio and mat work teaching qualifications gained through over seven hundred hours of lectures, self mastery and apprentice teaching. I later became a Polestar Pilates mentor and enjoyed helping new instructors develop their skills.

I am the instructor who will guide you through your Pilates practice. Personally, I do two to four Pilates sessions each week as well as cardiovascular exercise. I attend Pilates specific continuing education with industry leaders throughout the year.

Prior to moving to New Zealand I ran My Pilates Studio in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. The community that developed through my business was wonderfully warm and nurturing with many of those connections still in place over a decade later. Beachlands very much reminds me of the Barossa and I look forward to meeting everyone who walks through my door!

I find the human body fascinating. The positive effect that Pilates has on our quality of life is wonderful to watch. I love seeing the realisation sweep across a clients face when they assess how their body feels a few months after starting Pilates.

When I’m not in the studio you might see me out running or enjoying our beautiful coastline with my husband Paul and two young children, Zali and Remy. We love heading to Clevedon Farmers market each Sunday and I’m sure you’ll witness our elbow grease as we convert our very blank section into an edible garden.

MY STUDIO

My Pilates Studio is based at my home catering for one or two clients at a time. We have Pilates Equip and Balanced Body equipment. These beautifully constructed machines are made of hard rock maple and are a pleasure to use.

PILATES

Pilates is an exercise system established in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates to combat his personal ails. He had success with the rehabilitation of patients in World War I and in the 1920s Joseph and his wife Clara opened a studio in the same building as the New York City Ballet, which is why Pilates is often associated with dancers.

Joseph and Clara had a number of key clients that continued their work adding their own bias to the method. This gives us the different schools of thought present today. Polestar Pilates method fuses the original Pilates work with current scientific research.
